It was a modest 1950's bungalow (see photo). They were truly taken away with the location ... 1/2 block from Marine Street beach, unlimited ocean views and the constant calming sounds from the sea. At our 1997 dinner meeting discussing the ultimate purchase of the home; Jack drew his "vision" of his Italian Villa on a napkin. Fast forward, after immense thought in design and construction, the home was complete for move-in March 2000. Very special and endearing features of the home are the familial artistic touches created by Jack's sister who hand painted tiles adorned in the arched gateway, both primary and secondary bathroom showers, primary room fireplace and patios. Jack and Dorie's design was to make it a quality built "lock and leave" home. Thus, gleaming pecan hardwood floors, maple kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, newly painted exterior, spiral staircase from front entry to viewing deck off master, flagstone hardscape, custom solid interior Alderwood doors, Alderwood built in bookshelves, free flowing floorplan with separate formal dining and living rooms, open kitchen to eat in area accompanied with a spacious family room opening to the al fresco patio dining with fireplace. This level features the 2nd level guest room, also ensuite, and the primary suite with dramatic 180 degree ocean and sunset views. The primary suite is adjoined/separated with a paneled wood sliding pocket door by a similar sized "retreat" room with fireplace. French doors open to the 9' x 24' deck where many late afternoons Jack and Dorie would lounge with their beverage of choice and view the "green flash" at sunset or watch the dolphins play in the surf. or just sit calmly to the sounds of the sea. Other details: This is an eco-friendly house with a slow drip irrigation system, low maintenance yard with citrus trees and owned, not leased, solar panels which were installed by Sunrun in 2016. The solar system generates electricity under Net Energy Metering 1.0, resulting in an electricity bill of $136.95 for the entire year of 2023. The house has central air conditioning but with the cool ocean breezes, it is only needed sparingly during the warm Santa Ana winds. Further, the house has a fan vented crawl space keeping the under-house area cool and dry. The fans are on a timer to run in the middle of the night. A One Water Systems whole house water filter is installed, and the unit is owned, not leased A yearly contract is in place with Harbor Pest Control. Attached AV equipment will convey with the property including speakers in most rooms and a subwoofer in the living room. Receiver and other AV equipment will not convey.
